Weekly Commentary
Trend Indicators Remain Negative Despite Strong Week for the Markets

The NASDAQ and other major indexes rose more than 2% this week but a distribution day on Friday left our trend indicators in the negative. Friday opened strongly on positive employment numbers and suggestion of a trade deal with China from the President, but the market quickly soured when the White House denied a deal was imminent. Friday's close at 7357 left the NASDAQ in correction territory 10.5% below its August 30 high.

The mid-week strength produced several high performing breakouts from both the cup and handle and volatility squeeze patterns, but as out breakouts detail table below shows, gains of more than a day or two can be elusive in this volatile market. I continue to suggest that caution is needed until our trend indicators turn positive.

Note also that no stocks met our criteria for inclusion on top rated list.
