Volatility Squeeze Breakouts
The best performing breakouts came from our Volatility Squeeze pattern this week closing with an average gain of 4.34% and none of them closing on Friday for a loss. These results came as the NASDAQ composite had a very strong week gaining 6.2%, almost doubling the performance of the other two major indexes. Reports of strong Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales fueled the action starting on Monday but the index really took flight on Wednesday in response to Fed Chairman Powell saying that interest rates were just below neutral. Although the market still expects a further 0.25% rate increase in December, a neutral result would likely be very positive for the markets.
The NASDAQ chart shows the 50 day average crossed below the 200 day average on Monday which should have been a bearish signal but as we see, the market took a more positive view. Strong volume levels on Wednesday and Friday delivered a couple of accumulation days.
